Any recommendations on how to do it? She is trying FB marketplace, which seems to be full of the same CL kind of crap with weirdos offering lower amounts (she is already asking near the bottom of the book range for it, and as I’ve said before, anything that is reliable  enough to be used as a commuter in the Seattle area is worth $3k ) and not showing up when they claim they will.

I’ll miss it, it has been a good car, but we don’t need it anymore.

If anyone here knows someone that would want it, let me know. It’s a 2008 Mazda 3 Hatchback and she has been the primary driver since it was new.

Pictures she took of the car for the posting (which I think are better than I’ve seen for all but dealer listings when I’ve bought used cars):

Quickest way to sell a car...not always the best, trust me, as I use to work for them. The flip side being it’s secure, efficient, and they pick up the car.

Only problem is your a four day drive for me. But that car fills the bill, if it’s less than $5,000.

I don’t think she’s stressed about selling instantly, we could sit on it for weeks without it being a problem...

Autotrader in Canada offers an “instant cash offer”. You basically plug in the details of your car, take it to any nearby dealer that participates (all of them seem to here) and as long as the details are correct, they cut you a cheque. Seems slick.

Its my "I lost my job and need to unload the Kia" plan

She wants $4k, but we’d go below that . I’d recommend some general stuff before driving it for four days, but other than that...

Interesting. Haven’t noticed that option...

I admit that we have a sort of “why add a middleman?” mentality, considering it’s not exactly an expensive car and a lot would probably do some light refurbishment and want $6-7k for it.

If this weekend and the next is a bust, we’ll probably start looking at quicker options like that.

Thank you.

cars.com is free and not shitty

Most of the scammers went to FB marketplace when CL put on the fee. Which is why CL added the fee.

An d “book value” doesn’t mean shit. What does Edmunds say it’s worth?

Beyond the usual list ‘0 craig and what not, I’ve had fantastic luck of the years with putting some for sale signs on clean cars and parking them in prominent locations.

I’ve also had some success on Craigslist the last couple of cars I’ve sold by listing them as a non-negotiable price at the lowest I would take for them. In both cases, I had cash in hand for  those cars within a couple of hours. I may left some money on the table, but I was ready to move on and a thousand dollars or something just didn’t feel like it was worth my time haggling over or messing around with over a longer sale.

I also put specific instructions in my adds (like to call only, or something of the sort), and then ignore any inquiry that doesn’t follow those explicit directions. It seems to weed out a lot of the scammers and flakes.

Edmunds claims a mere $2300, but I know anything running decently is worth a lot more here.

Two years ago her parents sold it to us and wanted us to pay tax on the sale, but the state claimed that you couldn’t buy it for less than $8k (lowest the state believed it was worth in terrible condition), so we would have to pay tax on that price. Her dad looked up the KBB and I thought the range sounded about right based on that ($3.25k-5.4k).

You could post a no-reserve auction on eBay and see how high the bidding goes. The fee is $25 and includes an Autocheck report

I’ve been selling a lot of smaller stuff(tools, wheels, dirtbike) on Craigslist and FB and it is a nightmare. Maybe 1 out of 50 people isn’t completely full of shit. I’ll be selling two cars in the next couple months and plan on using Ebay, one of them might be able to make it on Bring A Trailer. Auctions take a lot of stress out of it.

I know around here, carmax and some dealerships will buy cars from you. We’ve done one each for a handful of reasons.

At carmax they will give you a written quote, which might be useful information if it seems like the only offers you're getting are lowball offers..

Looks really tidy. $4k is a steal IMO. I would go Craigslist based on recent experience. Use a Google Voice  or throaway number and ignore the scam bots.

We got a very serious buyer that just showed up, took it for a test drive, loved it, and will be picking it up tomorrow for full asking. We thought it was a pretty reasonable price... I know I’d gladly pay what she wants for it if I needed a car and it was an option. I t’s a great little car.

Seems to me to be about a 4-5k car and I would buy it and drive it home this weekend if I had $4k to spend right now.

Oh, congrats! Sounds just like my recent selling  experience! Mazda3s have always been awesome cars. I even love the much derided maze shifter.

I was out earlier taking pics of a CL ad I’m putting up of my own. Fingers crossed for another great experience.
